Ask your people why they are there and start with your uppermost management and continue down through departments.
If they struggle to answer the question then you as a leader have not communicated effectively why your business or organization exists. Do not punish them for not being able to articulate it...it's your fault as the leader.
If you receive all different answers then you have an alignment issue.
If you receive different answers from different departments, but the same answer within the departments then you have a siloing and alignment issue.
Once everyone knows and can communicate why your business or organization exists the next questions people will need to clearly know are:
a. How do we behave?
b. What do we do?
c. How will we succeed?
d. What is important right now?
e. Who must do what?
f. What is our brand?
Without alignment, you will never reach your greatest level of success.
