The third product that a board produces is the assurance of high-performance.
The board produces this product by measuring against pre-established outcome objectives that a high-performing organization would deliver. In fact, these outcomes are the basis for the evaluation of the CEO/senior leader. The executive limitations, empowering boundaries, as well as the organization's policies help ensure that the high-performance outcomes are achieved in a manner consistent with the values of the organization, as well as being legal.
However, the board must also make sure to provide the CEO/senior leader with the necessary resources in order to achieve high-performance, thus holding the CEO/senior leader accountable AND able.
